Beulah Burial Ground

Beulah Baptist Chapel in Lower Cwmtwrch was built in 1834, rebuilt in 1860 and modified in 1903. The 1860 chapel was built in the Sub-Classical style with a gable-entry plan, two storeys and round-headed windows. The chapel closed in December 2025 and the building listed for sale. Beulah Chapel has a Vestry on the opposite side of the main road with a stone saying Festri Beulah 1893.

The original Cemetery was a plot behind the Chapel but eventually the main road was widened and a section of the Cemetery had to be moved. Today a grassy area contains a very few old headstones propped up around the edges although some are broken and now unreadable.

Our website ystradgynlais-history.co.uk names some of the Reverends of the Chapel including Photos of the New Cemetery which is situated on the Palleg Road, Cwmtwrch, Ystradgynlais, Powys. This Cemetery also includes several Graves of men who fell in WWI.

When I photographed the Cemetery in the Palleg, I entered the gate and as there is a path down the centre I decided to name one side the LEFT and the other the RIGHT. The first grave of each row is the one nearest the Road.
